BornFree and Tommee Tippee
Formula Dispenser Comparsion

Anyone who has bottle fed will understand how much people tell you “not to make up feeds in advance unless you keep them in a fridge”.  Now this leaves a problem, do you really want to carry a HUGE tub of formula around with you when you already have nappies, wet wipes, bottles, bibs and God only knows what else?  I know I didn’t, so I set about looking for an alterntive.

I was absolutely delighted when I discovered the Tommee Tippee Formula Dispensers at £4.99 for 6 individual containers.  They come from the Closer To Nature range and fit snugly into the top of the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles.  Each individual container holds up to 8 scoops of powder.

The process is simple, ensure the container is dry, scoop the required amount of powder in, place in the bottle of water, screw on lid and away you go.  Then just empty the powder into the water when required.  Simples.  Or is it?

I bought these when Little Man was a baby, only they were part of the Tommee Tippee Nuby range back then, and they were fantastic.  These Closer to Nature ones though have a slight design flaw (as do the bottles mind).  I found we had to be extra extra careful when screwing the lid on as if it wasn’t quite on tidy boiling hot water would squirt into the bag.  Although the Closer to Nature bottles also have an issue, where the lid pops off if the water is too warm.  I certainly don’t remember these issues 4 years ago but then that could be because my long-term memory is shot. Still, they prove to be very very useful when heading out for the day.

The other product I’ve tried recently, thanks to a competition on their Facebook Fanpage, is the BornFree BPA-free Formula Dispenser.  This is more expensive than the Tommee Tippee ones at £6.99 for one container with three separate compartments.  The design on this is, in my opinion, brilliant.  It’s so smooth and rounded.  I did actually spend a short amount of time just feeling it.  I took it apart and put it back together again.  I really felt the need to explore it well.

Bulkier than the Tommee Tippee dispensers and not quite as convenient, it has a far easier way of dispensing the powder.  Following exactly the same routine without placing it inside the bottle, it’s just as easy.

The BornFree Dispenser can also come in handy for cereal portions, snacks for baby and the like, so it isn’t JUST a formula dispenser.

So which do I prefer?

This is a tough one...

  • The Tommee Tippee Formula Dispenser is cheaper for twice as many feeds as the BabyBornFree dispenser.
  • The Tommee Tippee dispensers are more compact and convenient than the BabyBornFree dispenser.
  • The Tommee Tippee dispensers do not fit inside the bottles as well as they should and can cause leakage.
  • The BornFree dispenser makes it easier to dispense the powder than the design of the Tommee Tippee ones.
  • The BornFree dispenser is handy for many more things than JUST formula.

In conclusion...

I like both products although (because of the pretty pink colour) I’m constantly drawn to the BornFree dispenser.  The one thing I don’t like about it, is the price.. it does seem expensive for what you get compared with Tommee Tippee but the quality is so much better.
